Parallax scrolling has been a popular trend in web design for a couple of years and for the right reasons. Web designers can build impressive websites using this “magic” effect. And with the use of new ingredients like jQuery, HTML5 and CSS3 they can give visitors a remarkable and surprising browsing experience.
Generally speaking, parallax scrolling is a special scrolling/animation technique wherein the background moves slower than the elements in the foreground. This effect create an illusion of depth and movement. The technique was developed by early film makers. They used a multiplane camera for creating traditional animation and this goes all the way back to the 1940’s. In 1982, the technique was popularized in the Moon Patrol arcade game.

Some of the websites has parallax scrolling as the main feature while others just use it to add depth. I hope that by browsing on my list, you will find the inspiration you need for your own projects.
